Welcome to a brief tour of the KS's Pony Farm grounds!
This land has been in our family for generations, and we are proud to do our part to keep it healty for generations to come. Today the farm itself is just over 60 acres, though we lease another 40 acres for additional hay land and grazing. About 30 years ago Alabama Highway 24 was re-routed with a new four-lane corridor, and that wiped out about 20 acres of prime grazing. However, it has had the added bonus of making all of our ponies completely traffic proof! The main barn has 8 stalls, an indoor round pen, covered hot walker and stallion run. We also have 5 addional mare-motel stalls and run-in area with large hay feeder in the lower barn. Additional outbuildings include feed and hay storage, run-in barns, and creepfeeder for our foals. We are blessed to have abundant springs in the lower section of our property, which keeps the grass green all summer, even in dry spells. It does make things rather soggy over the winter, and we have 7 ponds that the main springs feed to help contain excessive water. The ponds are fresh and clean, and our ponies enjoy not only drinking from them, but also wading in, splashing around, and sometimes even lying down in the water! Our farm is also home to several species of wildlife, including grey and red squirrels, abundant fish, Blue Herons, Canadian Geese, Kingfishers, Purple Martins, Barn Swallows, Bluebirds, turtles, and the occasional White-tailed deer. Other non-equines include our two dogs Yogi (red heeler) and Bear (blue heeler), our three donkeys, Jenny, Susie Q, and Terrance, and assorted bob-tailed cats (part Manx). The photos are an arial shot taken in August, 2005 on the left, and a shot of the mares and foals on their summer pasture on the right. (The pond in the second photo is hidden behind the large trees at the top center of the arial shot.)
